I normally send out 2 letters every month, so it feels a bit weird writing this just a few days after the last one. Sometimes, though, I see something and want to share it or have a few quick thoughts about it. I guess that’s what Substack’s ‘notes’ are for, but honestly, I prefer writing these out. Anyway, consider this to be a mini letter.
So I just finished watching the linked video above. It showed up on my YouTube homepage and it’s from this guy called KeshArt. He talks about setting a 10-year timeline to work on something, get good, and see significant results. You might have heard of the “Do something for 10,000 hours” quote which is the thought that you have to practice for a long time to become a master of something. These are all variations of the same idea though.
I did like the idea of patience that he mentions in the video. It doesn’t matter how quickly we want something, time plays a factor. Time is the biggest factor and we have to learn to work with it, to be patient while still doing the work. We keep on chipping away at the wall until it finally cracks. And it cracks at different times for different people. For some, it’s a matter of weeks. For others, it takes years. Hence, the 10-year rule.
It’s an interesting watch. Nothing new really, but as someone recently told me, we don’t need to learn new things every day, sometimes, we just need to be reminded.
See you soon,
