Hi friend, how’s your day going?
I shared a video in Friday’s newsletter about camcorders and it’s been stuck in my head ever since. Youtube saw that I liked that video and now there’s almost always a camcorder video on my homepage. Earlier today (Monday, July 3), I watched a video made with a Casio digital camera and now I’m torn between getting a camcorder or a point-and-shoot camera.
Let me briefly describe these before I get into why I’m overthinking getting one.
A camcorder is a simple, mostly handheld video recorder. It was really popular and it’s super easy to carry around (there are larger ones though, but the small ones are what I’m talking about).
A point-and-shoot is a digital camera that is small, compact, and has a fixed lens. It’s very easy to use and all you have to do is literally just point-and-shoot. They can also record videos.
Now, point-and-shoots are no longer popular because smartphones do what they do and more. Heck, smartphones also replaced camcorders, so why do I need (want) one?
As someone who enjoys the art (and science) of photography, I want one for the vibes, for that feeling I’d get using an actual camera (or camcorder) to take random photos or videos.
Of course, I can always use my DSLR, but I don’t want to carry a bulky cam and multiple lenses with me everywhere I go. I want something small that can fit into my pocket (or bag) and I can quickly whip out and press record or point-and-shoot (pun intended).
Right now, my Chrome is a mess of opened eBay tabs where I am currently searching for a good deal for either a camcorder or a point-and-shoot. But the more I write this, the more I find myself leaning towards the point-and-shoot, just for the added benefit of getting both photos and videos.
Some of these are really pricey, but since getting this gear is not something urgent or really important, I’ll settle for a deal on an older, vintage model.
Now in terms of photo and video quality, they’re both not as good as a DSLR, but I’m not in this for quality…vibes, accessibility, and ease of use, but mostly vibes are what I’m after.
Well, I’ll decide and let you know what I get. Maybe I’ll end up getting both or none.
Till then, it’s back to browsing eBay.
Hope you have a great week, feel free to reply to this email and I’ll talk to you on Friday.
